U.S. Awards $47 Million in Biofuels Research Projects

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have awarded a total of $47 million to fund eight R&D projects in the fields of biofuels, bionenergy and biobased products. Grant recipients must contribute a minimum of 20% of matching funds for R&D work and 50% for demonstration projects. The projects are funded through the Biomass Research and Development Initiative and will help increase the availability of renewable fuels and biobased products to diversify the nation's energy resources, DOE and USDA say.
