EPA issues proposed renewable fuel standards for 2014

EPA’s 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) proposed lowering the amount of biofuels refiners are mandated to blend into fuels for the first time in the federal program’s history. The agency  says increased biofuels production but decline in overall fuel consumption has saturated the nation’s fuel supply with ethanol.   EPA’s proposal calls for 15.0–15.2 billion gallons of biofuels be blended into the US fuel supply, down from the 16.55 billion gallons mandated be used in 2013. “Nearly all gasoline sold in the U.S. is...
