EPA, DOE Evaluate Using Blighted Sites for Renewables Production

The U.S. EPA and the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Golden, CO) have formed a partnership to evaluate the feasibility of developing renewable energy production on Superfund, brownfields, and former landfill or mining sites. EPA plans to invest about $650,000 in the project, which is part of a larger initiative launched in 2008 that aims to decrease the amount of green space used for development, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help create jobs and improve the health of local communities.
