Senate Passes Patent Reform Bill

The Senate recently approved the America Invents Act, a bipartisan bill that updates the nation’s patent system for the first time in more than 50 years. The bill, which passed 95-5, is sponsored by Senators Patrick Leahy (D., VT), Orrin Hatch (R., UT), and Charles Grassley (R., IA). The legislation will help reduce patent application backlogs and transition the U.S. patent system to a first-inventor-to-file system, the lawmakers say.
