Industry urges EU authorities to review member states' BPA bans

Plastics Europe (Brussels), an industry group, has asked European Union (EU) authorities to "ensure that member states respect existing EU rules and processes on food contact materials." The move follows a decision by France to ban bisphenol A (BPA) in almost all food contact materials, beginning July 2013. Belgium and Switzerland also have announced plans to ban BPA, but the proposal is limited to food packaging materials intended for children younger than three years.
