Hinchey Renews Push for Corporate Superfund Tax

Representative Maurice Hinchey (D., NY) has introduced legislation that would reinstate the Superfund tax charged to oil and chemical companies that expired December 31, 1995. The Superfund Equity and Megasite Remediation Act of 2007 would also temporarily increase polluter fees for five years to boost funding for so-called Superfund “mega sites,” which are projected to cost more than $50 million to remediate, Hinchey says.
