France Passes GM Crop Bill...

The French senate has passed a bill regulating genetically modified (GM) crops. The legislation was approved earlier by France’s lower house of parliament, the National Assembly. However, it required two votes in the parliament after an insufficient number of members from France’s ruling UMP Party showed up to pass the bill at the first vote. The opposition Socialist Party and environmental activists have campaigned against the bill. The Constitutional Council, a judicial body, has until late June to review the bill before President Nicolas Sarkozy...
