EU Officials Advise U.S. Senate on Emissions Trading

Senate Environment and Energy Committee chairman Jeff Bingaman (D., NM) says he plans to use comments from a recent roundtable discussion with industry, EU officials, and consultants to finish drafting a climate change bill he plans to introduce this month. The committee is studying the lessons learned from the European Union’s (EU) carbon dioxide (CO2) emission trading program, part of which the U.S. may use as a basis for its national program.
