EU Court Rules Paraquat Herbicide Approval Was Flawed

The European Court of First Instance (Luxembourg) has ruled that the herbicide paraquat should never have been approved for use in the European Union (EU). The decision by the court, which administers legal challenges brought by individual member states against EU rulings, is a response to a legal challenge by the Swedish government to a 2003 European Commission decision not to ban the sale of paraquat in the EU.
