EPA Will Limit Perchlorate in Water

EPA says it will create the first national standard to regulate perchlorate in drinking water based on research indicating the chemical disrupts hormone production. The decision to propose a formal rule reverses a decision made by the previous administration in 2008. Perchlorate is both a naturally-occurring and man-made chemical that is used in the manufacture of rocket fuel, fireworks, flares and explosives, and may be present in bleach and in some fertilizers.
