EFSA opens public consultation on dietary reference values for manganese

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) has launched an open consultation on the draft scientific opinion on dietary reference values for manganese, the authority says. The document proposes dietary reference values for manganese for adults, infants, children, and pregnant and lactating women. Manganese is an essential dietary mineral and is a component of several metalloenzymes involved in metabolism. A specific manganese deficiency syndrome has not been described in humans, and the body is able to adapt to a wide range of manganese intake...
