Dow Posts Sharp Loss; Lays Out Defense in R&H Case

Dow Chemical posted a fourth-quarter net loss of $1.56 billion as the global economic slowdown and inventory depletion across nearly all product chains fueled a 17% decline in Dow’s global volumes and decimated profits. Sales fell 23%, to $10.9 billion. Liveris: Closing deal would mean irreparable harm. Separately, Rohm and Haas (R&H) sued Dow late last month seeking to force the closure of Dow’s planned $18.8-billion R&H acquisition.
