Chemical Found in Raft of ‘Organic’ Products

About 46 of more than 100 personal care products marketed as “natural” or “organic” were tested this year and found to contain 1,4-dioxane, a petroleum-derived contaminant that can potentially cause cancer, says the Organic Consumers Association (OCA; Finland, MN). An independent third-party laboratory tested the products, which include shampoos, body washes, and lotions, says OCA, which represents more than 850,000 members in the natural foods and organic marketplace.
