Canada's Triclosan Assessment Identifies Potential Harm to the Environment

Health Canada has issued a preliminary risk assessment of the antimicrobial triclosan, saying it is not harmful to human health but “significant amounts can cause harm to the environment.” Health Canada says that, due to these environmental concerns, it will begin discussions with industry “on the potential for voluntary reductions in the use of triclosan in products.” The proposed assessment also found “no clear link between the use of products containing triclosan and antibacterial resistance.” Triclosan is used in a...
