Brussels Cuts Polish and Czech CO2 Emission Limits

The European Commission has substantially cut national carbon dioxide (CO2) emission limits proposed by Poland and the Czech Republic for the next phase of the European Union’s (EU) emissions trading scheme (ETS), from 2008 until 2012. The commission slashed the Polish government’s proposed annual allocation of CO2 allowances by 26.7%, to 208.5 million m.t., and cut the Czech government’s proposed annual allocation of CO2 allowances by 14.8%, to 86.8 million m.t.
