Novamont launches fourth-generation bioplastics

Novamont (Novara, Italy) has unveiled the first product made from fourth-generation Mater-Bi, the company's family of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics based on two new technologies. The new technologies will make it possible for the company to produce two monomers from renewable sources. The first monomer, from the vegetable oil production chain, is obtained using a technology that transforms oils into azelaic acid and other acids through a chemical process. The other—a biosourced 1,4-butanediol (BDO)—comes from the fermentation of sugars...
