MRSA-Resistant Paint Developed

Researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI: Troy, NY) have created an antibacterial paint for surfaces that are exposed to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureas (MRSA). This paint is an advance on previous attempts because it cannot be washed off and there is no resistance. The technology works using an enzyme, lysostaphin, which is embedded into the paint polymer using carbon nanotubes to create a “nanotube-enzyme conjugate”.
