EU finances consortium researching production pathways for biobased chemicals

The European Union is financing BIO-QED, a project aimed at developing new industral routes for the manufacture of key chemicals based on renewable resources or raw materials, the European Union announced. BIO-QED officially launched on 1 January. It is an entrepreneurial consortium built with the joint ambition to generate hard evidence and collect all of the technical and economic key design parameters needed for investment decisions for the first industrial production plants for the biobased building blocks 1,4-butanediol and itaconic acid.
