Solvay Acetow, Accsys to develop high-performance wood; Solvay plans production plant

Solvay Acetow, a Solvay subsidiary, has signed a worldwide cooperation agreement with Accsys Technologies (Windsor, UK) to develop a solid, high-performance wood registered as Accoya. The product is ideal for outdoor use and challenging applications, and it is achieved by acetylation of sustainably sourced timber, the companies say. Solvay, under the terms of the agreement, has finalized a plan for a 63,000-cubic meter plant at Freiburg, Germany, with start of operations foreseen by mid-2016.
