Bayer Makes Environmental Case for Replacing Automotive Glazing with Polycarbonate

Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) says it has developed polycarbonate and polyurethane materials to replace glass in automotive applications that are up to half the weight of glass. The result is that the materials could significantly reduce a vehicle’s fuel consumption, the company says. BMS says from an independent study commissioned by the company that replacing glass in vehicles with polycarbonate can reduce CO2 emissions in a vehicle by 14-22 kg for each kilogram of glass.
