3M and Umicore Sign Battery Materials Agreement

3M and Umicore have signed a second technology license agreement relating to nickel, manganese and cobalt (NMC) cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries. Umicore will manufacture and sell low-cobalt NMC material compositions to lithium-ion battery makers. The batteries will be used in automotive and consumer electronics applications. “NMC cathode materials have shown significant advantages in large format battery applications like electric vehicles,” says Christian Milker, business manager of 3M’s electronics materials markets division...
