Nations Agree to Add Nine Substances to POPs Treaty

Representatives of more than 150 nations have agreed to add nine substances to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), an international treaty that initially targeted 12 substances that should be eliminated from global commerce and use. The United Nations Conference of the Parties met last week in Geneva, and agreed to add nine substances, or groups of substances, to the 2001 Stockholm Convention.
