India Fines Firm $46 Million for Groundwater Contamination

India's Supreme Court has ordered Hindustan Agro Chemicals (Mumbai) to pay a total of Rs2.02 billion ($46 million), which includes a fine of Rs370 million the court had ordered it to pay in a ruling in 1996 for polluting groundwater in the state of Rajasthan, and an interest on the fine, reports say.
