EnviroTech :: Environment G-8 Nations Disagree on Firm CO2 Emission Cuts12:53 PM MDT | July 31, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff The world’s eight wealthiest nations pledged to make “substantial” cuts in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions at the Group of Eight (G-8) meeting, held last week at Heiligendamm, Germany. Six of the eight nations agreed to cut emissions in half by 2050, but the U.S. and Russia would not commit to a firm emission-reduction schedule. The British Royal Society (London) and other groups of scientists last month called on Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel to convince the G-8 nations to agree to firm reductions, a mission that was not successful...
