EU CO2 emissions fall in 2012

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil-fuel combustion in the 27 EU member states were 2.1%, or 72.5 million m.t., lower in 2012 than in the previous year, according to early estimates from Eurostat. These early estimates have been released only five months after the end of the reference year by using monthly energy statistics. Emissions of CO2 are a major contributor to global warming and account for about 80% of all EU greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which are influenced by factors such as climate conditions, economic growth, population size...
