EPA Rejects Petition to Ban 2,4-D2:15 PM MDT | April 23, 2012 | Rebecca Coons EPA announced earlier this month that it had denied a petition from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC; Washington) asking the agency to cancel product registrations and revoke all food tolerances for the widely used herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). NRDC petitioned EPA in November 2008 to ban 2,4-D, citing studies linking exposure to adverse health effects and ecological damage. The group filed suit against EPA in February to force a response.
