EPA Particulates Proposal Due by June 14, with Finalization by December 14

The American Lung Association (ALA; Washington) says it has reached an agreement with EPA for the agency to propose air quality standards for particulates, or soot, by June 14, with the final rule due by December 14. The agreement extends by one week a recent court-ordered deadline for the proposal, which had been set for today, June 7. The new schedule is an attempt by EPA to settle a lawsuit brought by ALA, which had filed suit to compel EPA to comply with the Clean Air Act requirement that the particulate standards be reassessed every five years.
