EPA Classifies Perc as 'Likely Human Carcinogen'

EPA has issued its final health assessment for the dry cleaning solvent and degreaser tetrachloroethylene (perc) under the agency’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), classifying it as a “likely human carcinogen.” The health assessment, which sets a reference dose (RfD) .006 milligrams/kilogram (mg/kg) of body weight, will be used by officials to establish cleanup levels at  hazardous waste sites; to revise EPA’s Maximum Contaminant Level for perc as part of the carcinogenic volatile organic compounds group in drinking water...
