Chemical Plant in Earthquake Zone Defies Order to Stop Production

At least one chemical plant in Sichuan Province, China has defied a Chinese government order to halt production for safety reasons in the aftermath of the May 12 earthquake that devastated parts of the region, Greenpeace says. The State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS; Beijing) ordered chemical plants near the earthquake’s epicenter to cease operating.
