Amendment to Senate Transportation Bill Would Block Boiler MACT Rules

Senator Susan Collins (R., ME) has attached an amendment to a Senate transportation bill that would halt implementation of air emission rules for industrial boilers and would allow industry no less than five years to comply with any new EPA rules setting maximum achievable technology (MACT) standards for industrial boilers.  However, the Senate transportation bill has had a tough time gaining traction, a problem many in Washington attribute to Congress no longer using “earmarks” to allocate transportation funds for projects favored by certain...
