BASF returned to profit in the fourth-quarter of 2009, the first since 2008 in which volumes exceeded year-ago levels. However, the world's largest chemical maker warned that recovery will be slow. The company is also not planning any major acquisitions. Other financial results were mixed. Bayer saw a strong fourth-quarter, with Ebitda rising by 11.5%, while SQM's earnings fell 37% on volume declines. Dekkers likes Bayer's business. Bayer's new Chairman, Marjin E.
