EnviroTech :: Climate Change Researchers Move Closer to Making Artificial Organisms6:26 AM MDT | August 24, 2009 | Alex Scott Researchers led by J. Craig Venter at the J. Craig Venter Research Institute (Rockville, MD) in a paper published recently in the journal Science, indicate that they are closer to a system for designing artificial organisms. The researchers state in the journal that they have made significant progress to enable genetic engineers to routinely manipulate genes and even whole sets of genomes in bacteria by bypassing the bacteria’s immune system. The researched achieved this step inserting into the synthetic bacteria certain genomes cloned from yeast... This information is only available to Chemical Week subscribers.
