EnviroTech :: Climate Change Poland Blocks Plans to Toughen EU Emissions Target12:55 PM MDT | June 22, 2011 | Ian Young Poland has blocked plans by other European Union (EU) member states to toughen EU targets to cut carbon emissions. EU ministers, meeting in Luxembourg this week, discussed plans to cut carbon emissions 25% by 2020 compared with 1990 levels. EU states are currently committed to a 20% emissions cut by 2020. However, Poland vetoed the proposals. Poland generates an estimated 90% of its electricity from coal and has long been an opponent of the EU's climate change policies.
