EU carbon dioxide emissions fall by 2.5% in 2013 compared with 2012

Emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from fossil fuel combustion by the 28 member states of the European Union decreased by 2.5% in in 2013 compared with those in 2012, according to Eurostat, the European statistics office. Emissions fell in 2012 by 1.6% compared with those in 2011. Atmospheric emissions of CO2 are a major contributor to global warming and account for around 80% of all EU greenhouse gas emissions, according to Eurostat.
