Researchers Identify Zeolite Catalyst Imperfections, Route to Greater Efficiency

A team of researchers, funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO;Den Haag, the Netherlands) has identified that building blocks of crystals that form zeolite catalysts are irregular and so can lead to significant inefficiencies of the catalyst. Zeolite catalysts can have a structure like a miniature swiss cheese, featuring a series of molecular-size holes through which molecules can pass.
