ZeaChem Demonstrates Biorefining Process at Scale

ZeaChem (Lakewood, CO), a biomaterials start up, says it has successfully produced cellulosic ethanol at a capacity that can readily be scaled up to commercial production. Zeachem says its results have been confirmed by third party vendors. The company’s technology involves the innovative use of off-the-shelf catalysts and standard equipment to generate ethanol from ethyl acetate via a hydrogenation step.   The company is now proceeding with plans to integrate its process into a 250,000 gall/year biorefinery at Boardman, OR.
