Metabolic Explorer Breaks New Ground with Bio-Route to PDO

Industrial biotech start-up Metabolic Explorer (Clermont-Ferrand, France) this week disclosed that it has successfully produced initial samples of 1,3-propanediol (PDO) generated from the fermentation of crude, industrial glycerol featuring a proprietary patent-protected purification step. Glycerol is a byproduct of industrial biodiesel production. The samples of PDO were generated at a purity of above 99.5%, the company says.
