EnviroTech :: Alternative fuels BioMCN Starts Up Glycerine-to-Methanol Pilot9:54 AM MDT | April 15, 2008 | Michelle Bryner BioMethanol Chemie Nederland (BioMCN; Delfzijl, The Netherlands) says it has successfully started up its 20,000-m.t./year pilot facility, which uses the by-product glycerine from biodiesel production to manufacture biomethanol. BioMCN acquired the Delfzijl facility, which previously produced methanol from natural gas, in 2006 from Methanor (Amersfoort, the Netherlands), a 40-30-30 joint venture of Dynea, Akzo Nobel, and DSM. “The sharp increases in the gas price have made methanol production using natural gas as a feedstock unattractive in Delfzijl compared...
