Cobalt signs biobased butadiene development deal

Renewable fuel and chemical firm Cobalt Technologies (Mountain View, CA) says it has partnered with two prominent, but unnamed, Asian companies for the development of biobased butadiene. The deal calls for the construction of a commercial-scale biorefinery in Asia, with the option to build or license additional manufacturing plants. Both partners also made an equity investment in Cobalt, although the financial terms have not been disclosed. Cobalt’s technology produces n-butanol, a four-carbon alcohol that can be used as a solvent or converted into butane...
