Butadiene Players Uncertain About First-Quarter Contracts

December U.S. Gulf Coast butadiene contract prices settled 49% lower than last week, at 50 cts/lb, setting a dismal stage for the beginning of first-quarter butadiene contract negotiations in Europe. Notional spot numbers are running at about half of European fourth-quarter contract levels, and sources say there is little clarity as producers and buyers enter a new round of contract negotiations.
