Outlook for the North American Chemical Industry
Growth in North American chemical production and demand has been lackluster in recent years. Exports have been robust, however, in the past year as surging crude oil prices tipped ethane-based chemicals in North America into a cost-competitive position versus naphtha-based producers in other regions. Are these both short-term conditions? What is the outlook for the North American industry? How are North American producers responding?
