CHEM IDEAS Pilot Consumer Product Database to Launch at Helsinki Chemicals Forum9:41 AM MDT | May 2, 2012 | By HENRY DELIMA by Henry DeLima, owner of DeLima Associates (McLean, VA) The CPID, which only contains products sold in the U.S., has been available for use by consumers in the U.S. for over 10 years and experiences over 30,000 page views/day. Since the first presentation was made, DeLima Associates received requests for an EU-version of the database. After discussions with industry and government officials in Europe, the CPID was redesigned to include products sold in Europe.
The Pilot EU-version of the database will be launched at the 2012 Helsinki Chemicals Forum in May. The EU-version was designed with special emphasis on health and environmental regulations that apply to chemicals in consumer products (Reach). The multi-lingual pilot version, will initially contain products sold in Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Estonia and the U.K. The CPID will help fill the need to communicate the properties and health and environmental effects of chemicals found in products used by consumers, the importance of which will be also addressed by one of the panel discussions at the Helsinki Chemicals Forum this year: 'Communicating with the General Public on Chemicals Safety? Are Public Bodies, Industry and NGO’s Reaching Our Citizens.'
The CPID and the web site www.whatsinproducts.com helps consumers in selecting brand-name products based on the health and environmental attributes of the product’s ingredients. Consumers with certain allergies or chemical sensitivities can thus avoid brands that may aggravate a pre-existing medical condition. The Helsinki Chemicals Forum takes place May 24-25, 2012 at Helsinki, Finland. See the program and find out more at www.helsinkicf.eu |
