A huge explosion and fire on 3 June at a Shell chemical plant at Moerdijk, Netherlands, has injured two employees. An explosion occurred at about 11:00 pm local time at Shell’s MSPO-2 plant, which produces styrene monomer and propylene oxide, and was followed by a fire, according to Shell, The injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Graham van't Hoff, executive v.p. for Shell Chemicals, said in comments at the ACC annual meeting, currently being held in Colorado Springs, CO. The fire and incident were fully under control by 6:00 am local time on 4 June and Shell is working with local authorities, he adds.
