European Union (EU) chemicals production has decreased 1.9% in the first four months of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, according to the latest Cefic’s Chemicals Trends Report. Monthly data for April 2012 also showed a 1.9% decline compared with April 2012. The latest data show that the EU chemicals production level remains 5.2% below the peak in 2007, Cefic says..

Clariant said an investor meeting in Munich today that it expects to divest three business units, accounting for nearly 20% of sales, within the next 18 months. Clariant has appointed Citibank to advise on the sale its textile chemicals; paper chemicals; and emulsions, detergents and intermediates units, Hariolf Kottmann, Clariant’s CEO tell CW. The businesses have combined sales of SF1.4 billion, accounting for 19% of Clariant's 2011 sales.
