The US Federal Trade Commission’s final amendments to automotive fuel rating, certification, and labeling requirements for certain ethanol-gasoline blends have opened the door to greater blending of ethanol into gasoline. The amendments, announced on 14 January, will go into effect on 14 July. They require that fuel marketers rate and certify all ethanol blends with ethanol content ranging from more than 10% to 83%, on a single pump; and that retailers post labels with ethanol percentage disclosures and the statement, “Use only in Flex-Fuel Vehicles/May Harm Other Engines.”...

US retail gasoline prices have spent 25 consecutive days below $2/gal, but they could head lower still as reduced seasonal demand and falling crude oil costs combine to send pump prices to the lowest mark in six years, according to US automotive organization AAA.  In its Daily Fuel Gauge Report, AAA said Monday's average price of $1.83/gal was the cheapest since January 2009, and retail averages have fallen for 69 of the past 80 days for a total savings of 40 cts/gal....
