The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has given preliminary approval to Oxea’s plan to build a second n-propanol unit at its Bay City, TX, facility, according to a notice released by the commission on 9 November. Oxea (Oberhausen, Germany) has launched a short-chain fatty alcohol product, n-nonanol. Oxea says its structure is almost completely linear, making the product “a potent and cost-effective alternative” to natural fatty alcohols derived from palm oil or coconut oil....

Oxea (Dallas) has lifted force majeure on oxo intermediates produced at its Bay City, TX, facility. “The plant repairs have been completed successfully, and the facility is running at full rates,” the company says. “All sales controls that were in place have now been lifted.”

Oxea says that “technical issues” arose at the end of a major scheduled maintenance turnaround at its Bay City, TX, facility. Oxea has begun basic engineering for a 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) unit and a propanol unit at its Bay City, TX, facility. Both are scheduled to start up in late 2016, the company says. The new units are additional to an ongoing expansion that will increase the Bay City plant’s output of butanol and propanol by 25% in the second half of 2014.

Eastman Chemical Company (Kingsport, TN) plans to increase capacity for the production of 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) at its Longview, TX, site by 20,000 m.t./year. The company expects to complete the project, which will bring the site’s total 2-EH capacity to 57,000 m.t./year, in the fourth quarter. To support the expansion, Eastman will also be increasing Longview’s capacity for the production of precursor butyraldehyde by 25,000 m.t./year....

Elekeiroz (São Paulo) has acquired an oxo gas plant that supplies its facility in Camaçari, Brazil, from Air Products. Elekeiroz, a producer of plasticizers, announced the move on 10 December. The deal includes the transfer of the plant’s employees and the purchase of equipment to adapt the plant’s product mix.
