Researchers from the US Department of Energy (DoE)'s Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI; Berkeley, CA) have engineered the Ralstonia eutropha bacterium to produce fatty acid-derived, diesel-range methyl ketones, JBEI announced. Methyl ketones are naturally occurring aliphatic compounds used in fragrances and flavorings.
