Dow Corning reports net income for the first quarter of $185 million, down 3.1% year-on-year (YOY) from $191 million. Sales totaled $1.36 billion, down 11% YOY. The declines reflect fewer polysilicon shipments to long-term contract customers, says J. Donald Sheets, the company’s executive v.p. and CFO. “These contracts have a degree of variability when customers take their product, and recent order patterns have resulted in customer orders being concentrated in the fourth quarter," he says....
