The IHS Materials Price Index (MPI) dropped 2.8% during the week ending 1 April on a 3.8% decline in oil and a 5.2% decline in chemicals, ending a six-week streak of increases. The decline in oil prices was partly driven by remarks that Saudi Arabia wants Iran to participate in the upcoming Doha talks, which would make a deal on production cuts less likely, says Cristian Niculescu-Marcu, economist/pricing & purchasing at IHS Global Insight.
