During the week ended 14 May, chemical railcar traffic in North America totaled 42,691 carloads, down 0.6% year-over-year (YOY) on a steep decline in Canada , according to data released on 18 May by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). Week-on-week, the figure fell 1.6% as declines in the United States and Canada were somewhat offset by a surge in Mexico. Local authorities have responded to a shift in the direction and speed of wildfires in Alberta by issuing a mandatory evacuation order for oil sands producers near Fort McMurray, AB.
